Google Chrome: 5 Must-Have Extensions

Since Google’s Beta Version launched allowing you to install 3rd-party extensions, a number of great extensions for the browser has already been developed. Here are the five best extensions every Chrome user should have with installation instructions for the beta client:

First, in order to install any addons, you’ll need to get the 4.0 beta version of the Chrome-Browser:

  1. Navigate to http://www.google.com/chrome/eula.html?extra=betachannel, accept and install v.4.0 of Chrome.
  2. Right click the Chrome icon on your desktop, then click properties.
  3. Click on the shortcut tab.
  4. Add the --enable-extensions parameter in the Target field AFTER ...\chrome.exe
    (with a space in between)

  5. Save and restart Chrome.

After you’ve done that, you can go ahead and install these awesome extensions:

1. Gmail Checker

Displays the number of new emails you have right in your browser and notifies you in real time when you receive an email. Upon clicking, you’ll be redirected to your inbox.

2. Digg

Just like introduced in this post on Techcrunch, the app will let you digg stories right from an overlay of your browser, you won’t have to go to digg.com first and log in to share your story. The extension also shows the digg count for the current page you are viewing and you have additional sharing options as well as the possibility to view a random digg-story.

3. Chromed Bird

A must-have for any Twitterer! After you install it and allow access to your Twitter profile it will show you the number of unread tweets you have, right next to the quicklaunch icon. Launching the overlay by clicking on the icon will allow you to do anything you could do directly inside your Twitter account (read tweets, follow lists and @replies, DMs, compose tweets and even directly shorten URLs).

4. Delicious for Chrome

5. AdThwart

An easy to use ad blocker that works with a number of pre-installed ad block filters like Easylist. You can manually create your own filters or exclude sites directly by clicking on the little icon inside the address bar.
