The Most Addictive iPhone Games
When it comes to games I allow myself to be EXTREMELY picky. I don’t just play anything for hours, just to see what reaching the ultimate goal of the game I play is like. I’ve had plenty of that in the past. Back in the days when I got my first computer (was a really slow Packard Bell I remember) I played every kind of available game on it; from Diablo over Pacman and Broken Sword, right to some gloomy German RPG called “Das Schwarze Auge” (“The Dark Eye” – adaption of a well known German pen & paper RPG). Did I mention that The Dark Eye was probably the best game I EVER played?
Anyway. There is two types of games I never dug (just because they are too repetitive and dull for my taste):
- Ego shooters
- Racing games
You’ll never find those on any of my computers and you most definitely won’t find them in this list. Other than that, these are really the games that even a bored and saturated gamer such as myself still finds fun simply because their game mechanisms are unique. That alone really says enough:
1. Tap Tap Revenge 3 [FREE]
Best game ever. Period. Especially if you love music. Hit the notes with your fingers on songs that can have different levels of difficulty (easy, medium, hard). Earn experience, cash and achievements to progress with your avatar: get new songs, level up and buy new equipment. You can play in multiplayer mode and use weapons to distract your opponents. The game has great socializing tools (chatrooms, friends lists) and although you can buy many known songs on the game in exchange for real cash, you can have loads of fun just playing it for free. It’s absolutely addictive. Here’s a review:
2. Doodle Jump [$0.99]
Almost as good as Tap Tap Revenge and very easy to understand. Simply direct a little toon which is already jumping on its own by tilting the iPhone. Direct it onto platforms to make it jump further and further and further… on the way you’ll encounter obstacles, traps and monsters (which you can shoot!!). Of course your score increases, the higher you get and there are many surprises like great holiday themes, e.g. for Halloween or Christmas which are completely free and really so much fun. This is the typical game you’ll get competitive about comparing scores with your friends and colleagues (you can upload the scores to FB and Twitter btw). Also perfect for a quick little game while you’re waiting at the doctor’s for example.
3. Geared [$0.99]
The obligatory mind teaser. Fit together different sets of gears to make them click together and rotate eventually. The game consists of 80 levels with increasing difficulty. As you move on, new concepts are introduced along the way and playing through the game will make time pass really quickly – until – well, until you get to that one level which takes ages to be solved… watch this review for a better impression:
4. Broken Sword [$4.99]
I used to love this game on my computer back then and was so excited to see that nowadays it can be played on a platform which fits right into my palm. Broken Sword is a great adventure game where you get to play a detective (and a hot journalist!) inside a point-and-click interface. Search for clues, solve puzzles and dive deeper into the well knit story behind a murder, happening right in the middle of Paris.
5. Scrabble (Multiplayer) [$4.99]
Everyone knows Scrabble. Imagine playing Scrabble in multiplayer mode without having to sort through tiles, without arguing and throwing a dictionary at someone’s head and with someone counting the points for you in real time! If you loved Scrabble as a kid, you’ll love the iPhone app even more.
